Tiger Woods and His Greatest Achievements
Tiger Woods is an American professional golf player and is the best paid sportsman in the world because of his accomplishments. He won 14 professional golf championships, and also 71 PGA Tour wins. He holds the record for being the youngest golfer to win the career Grand Slam and achieved a career Grand Slams three times becoming the second golfer to ever do so after Jack Nicklaus. He also won 16 World Golf Championships. Woods received the award PGA Player of the Year ten times for being able to stay on number one position the longest.
Tiger Woods was born in Cypress, California, on 30th of December 1975. From an early age he was attracted to golf mostly because of his father Earl Woods who was an amateur golfer. He learned how to play golf at the age of 2! He married Elin Nordegren on October 5, 2004, but they divorced on 23rd of August 2010 because of Woods’s famous infidelity.
In his first year as a pro in 1996 he played his first round at Greater Milwaukee Open, playing for the 60th place, but in the next three months he won two events qualifying in the Tour Championship. That year he received the PGA Rookie of the year award. Tiger won for the first time The Masters major by 18 under par in 1997, setting a record. Later on that year he won another three PGA Tours and ascended to the number one position in the world. He received this time the PGA Player of the Year award. In 1998 he won only one PGA Tour event.
In 1999 he finished the season with eight victories. He was awarded again with PGA Player of the Year. In the year 2000 Tiger had five consecutive wins, also he won three majors and nine PGA Tours. He continued to dominate in 2001 and 2002, but in 2003 he started to lose his edge. He didn’t win any majors in 2003 or 2004 plus in 2004 he lost his number one position to Vijay Singh.He started winning again in 2005 in the Buck Invitational and the 2005 Masters Series where he regained the number one position. He started 2006 with victories but he was beaten by Phil Mickelson. After a long battle with prostate cancer his father and mentor died at the age of 74 on May 3 2006. His father’s death put its mark on him as he started to lose. At the 2006 Open Championship he started to win again, dedicating his win in honor of his father. He dominated with his wins till 2008 when he got injured. He returned in 2009 with 6 major wins. He announced in late 2009 that he would take a break to solve his problems in marriage. In August 2010 they divorced because of Tiger’s infidelities and scandals.
In 2010 he returned, playing in the 2010 Masters, but he had no wins. In 2011 he started to win again. He is currently in the 3rd position. In his career he won 14 Major Championships, 71 PGA Tours, 38 European Tours, 2 Japan tours, 1 Asian tour, 1 PGA Tour of Australia and 15 other events.
